review: instanatural skincare

71fRMLLSZ5L._SL1370_I was sent some amazing things from InstaNatural to give a go! Firstly, if y’all have been following my posts, you know I have combination skin. So masks can be tricky for me if they are too drying or too moisturizing. You should also know that I hate hate hate my pores. I feel like they’re always too big and always really gross. They’re a big pet peeve of mine. I was drawn to this mask because it says it will remove excess dirt, oil, etc; which is exactly what my pores need! And let me tell you: it WORKED. I was amazed! Especially since it’s dark (like a mud mask, duh) — I was a little worried my pores would get darker! It’s made with minerals from the dead sea, which is super cool. Another amazing thing is you get a GIANT tub of it! If you only use it for the occasional face mask, this will last you .. forever. But what’s neat is that it can apparently be used on your total body to soothe aches and pains! I’ll be honest, I didn’t try that method yet. I’ve been a bit busy to work out the logistics of how I would approach that, since the idea sounds messy. Anyways, for only $24 on Amazon, this is an amazing deal. My skin felt and looked great afterwards! Here is InstaNatural’s awesome website. 🙂

In addition to this, I also got the InstaNatural Retinol Serum and the Retinol Moisturizer Cream. I have been using the moisturizer morning and night, and the serum every other day or every third day, depending on my skin. Both are scent free, light weight, and leave my skin feeling bright and super soft, without causing my oily spots to break out! The serum is available here on Amazon, and here is the moisturizer.

review: valentia even glow face serum

81ByyKM0IdL._SL1500_As y’all know, I’ve been experimenting with a lot of skincare recently. For the past few weeks I’ve been trying out Valentia’s Even Glow Vitamin C face serum. I have really enjoyed using this product! To begin, aging/wrinkles are not my number 1 skin concern. However, my skin can look dull at times; especially in the winter. My number one favorite thing about this serum is how much brighter and softer my skin was — it was pretty incredible! This serum comes in a really neat bottle, like a lot of serums do, with the eye dropper dispenser. It smells lightly citrus-y at first (to me), which makes since because it has vitamin C in it (which is an anti-oxidant!). But the scent fades fast and it’s pretty much odorless once it’s rubbed in. My skin can be a little bit acne prone, and after using this serum daily for about a week I started to notice very small pimples; so if you have oily skin, I would recommend using every other day. I also definitely recommend applying at night (which I do for most serums anyway) as it doesn’t soak in like some moisturizers will, so I’m not sure how it would handle makeup applied on top. Overall, this serum was definitely great — my skin feels and looks amazing! It’s refreshing to find something that can brighten up my poor skin in these winter months. And as most of us have heard, anti-oxidants are really important for maintaining skin health and youth! For $30 on Amazon, this is definitely a great buy! I hate how most serums can come with a ridiculous price tag upwards of $100, don’t you? Here is Valentia’s website for more information.

review: radha beauty skincare

61d-5aWRGjL._SL1000_As y’all know I have been on a seemingly endless quest for my new skincare routine — these two beauties are something I’ve been trying the past week that I wanted to share with you! I’ve been using Radha Beauty Retinol Moisturizer and the Radha Beauty Intensive Youth Eye Gel. You’ll have to forgive me — I meant to take before & after pictures, but my lighting situation and camera quality currently is poor. The verdict, in short, is that these products are a great purchase! They are extremely affordable and effective.

The moisturizer is available for only $25 — and it came in a surprisingly tall bottle! I have oily/combination skin that tends to get dry patches in the winter. When I first started trying this moisturizer, I was slathering on multiple pumps, and it was a little much.. My skin became a little to oily. But once I cut back the amount I use, it was perfect! Aging isn’t my number one concern with my skin (acne is), but I figure starting early is a great way to take care of your skin. This moisturizer isn’t scented, which is nice if you are sensitive to these things, and absorbs quickly. My powder foundation goes on smoothly over it! I would definitely recommend trying it out — but don’t forget, retinol can cause sun sensitivity!

Second, I have been using their eye gel. Let me just say this: I am a medical student. My dark circles are out of CONTROL! I tend to get bags under my eyes, and they are always super dark. It’s a constant battle for me. Plus, if I eat too much sodium, they can get super puffy. This eye gel is one of the most effective ones I tried — it reduced the darkness under my eyes tremendously! More impressively though, it was excellent at smoothing everything out. No matter how bad they looked when I woke up! It is very lightly scented like cucumber, which I enjoyed. It’s also very cooling and soothing. Unlike other eye creams, it does NOT leave your eye area greasy — that really drives me crazy with others I’ve tried! And my concealer and foundation go on beautifully. For only $17, this really is a steal! Definitely recommended.

review: red flower face serum

redflower_illuminatingrosecollagenrenewalfaceserum_900x900I know my posts have been beauty/review heavy recently — forgive me. I haven’t been up to a whole lot these past few weeks. I’ll spice things up again soon, I promise!

I received the Red Flower Illuminating Rose Collagen Renewal Face Serum in my November Birchbox. I have been spreading out the samples ever since! First off, the smell had me hooked instantly. Secondly, the (for lack of a better term) oiliness of this is also amazing. As a person with acne-prone skin, I am often hesitant to slather oil all over my face. But in the winter, my skin dries up a little bit, and this is the PERFECT amount of hydration for it. I’m in love!

Unfortunately, 1 fl oz is $86! While this would be a lot of uses (a little goes a long way), as a student paying hefty tuition twice a year, I have a hard time justifying spending that much on skincare at this point in my life.

Have you tried this serum? What did you think? What are your favorite face serums?

review: mirenesse mascara

mirenesse_icurl_secret_weapon_24hr_mascara_-_curl_power_900x900This month in my December Birchbox I received the Mirenesse iCurl Secret Weapon 24 hour Mascara. (This name feels too long for a mascara. But that’s neither here nor there.) It took me almost three weeks to get around to trying it simply because I’m currently using my most favorite mascara ever, L’Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes, and I’m hesitant to stray from something that works so amazingly. Anyway, finally gave it a whirl today…

To be honest, I wasn’t super impressed. True to its name, the mascara was very curling; however, it did not add enough volume or length for my taste. For a little background, I love love love mascaras. I’ve tried a lot. And especially with drug store brands, I’ll switch often. I don’t always love the mascara every one else does — I sometimes think I have weirdo eyelashes or something.

But this mascara just didn’t have the oomph I need, even with three coats. My lashes are naturally long but very fine, so I need something that is very volumizing and less so curling, which is why I don’t think this particular formula was my favorite. And at $29 a tube, I don’t believe I will be purchasing.

What are some of your favorite mascaras? Have you tried this one? What did you think?

review: davines hair care

davines_replumpingshampoo_900x900davines_replumpingconditioner_900x900_2davines_replumpingsuperactive_900x900

I received these three samples in my December Birchbox — Davines Replumping Shampoo, Replumping Conditioner, and Replumping Superactive spray. I was SUPER excited because receiving basically a haircare “routine” in a box doesn’t happen every month, and it caters to my OCD-ness and need for a routine. This is also perfect for me, since I have such fine hair that really lacks volume.

I’ll be honest though.. I was very disappointed. I used this routine several times before giving it the boot. It left my hair looking greasy and piecey.. Not at all voluminous! It was either the conditioner, or the spray, because it was concentrated around the bottom of my hair where I applied those products most. I haven’t taken the time to figure out which was the definite culprit because I usually don’t want to risk my hair looking like that again haha.

Have you had similar results with these products, or did you feel differently entirely? What are your favorite volumizing products?
