review: instanatural skincare

71fRMLLSZ5L._SL1370_I was sent some amazing things from InstaNatural to give a go! Firstly, if y’all have been following my posts, you know I have combination skin. So masks can be tricky for me if they are too drying or too moisturizing. You should also know that I hate hate hate my pores. I feel like they’re always too big and always really gross. They’re a big pet peeve of mine. I was drawn to this mask because it says it will remove excess dirt, oil, etc; which is exactly what my pores need! And let me tell you: it WORKED. I was amazed! Especially since it’s dark (like a mud mask, duh) — I was a little worried my pores would get darker! It’s made with minerals from the dead sea, which is super cool. Another amazing thing is you get a GIANT tub of it! If you only use it for the occasional face mask, this will last you .. forever. But what’s neat is that it can apparently be used on your total body to soothe aches and pains! I’ll be honest, I didn’t try that method yet. I’ve been a bit busy to work out the logistics of how I would approach that, since the idea sounds messy. Anyways, for only $24 on Amazon, this is an amazing deal. My skin felt and looked great afterwards! Here is InstaNatural’s awesome website. 🙂

In addition to this, I also got the InstaNatural Retinol Serum and the Retinol Moisturizer Cream. I have been using the moisturizer morning and night, and the serum every other day or every third day, depending on my skin. Both are scent free, light weight, and leave my skin feeling bright and super soft, without causing my oily spots to break out! The serum is available here on Amazon, and here is the moisturizer.

valentine’s day outfit & makeup

f2f87ff42943089f20a5f3b4e511166d_grande

I purchased this romper from Dainty Hooligan a while back. I love Valentine’s day, and the colors red and pink, but I thought that I would spice things up this year with a deep navy; you’d definitely stick out as a little more original in this I think! The thing about this outfit, though — when I got it in the mail, and tried it on, the shorts were super short and the top super low! So I don’t think I could get away with wearing it to a steak dinner — it’s definitely a “going out” outfit.

I stumbled upon this beauty on Pinterest (of course). I love a soft brown smokey eye and the winged eyeliner! Unfortunately this link on pinterest was a dead end (I hate it when that happens!) but I’ll just be using this for inspiration.

What are your outfit & beauty plans for this Valentine’s Day?

review: valentia even glow face serum

81ByyKM0IdL._SL1500_As y’all know, I’ve been experimenting with a lot of skincare recently. For the past few weeks I’ve been trying out Valentia’s Even Glow Vitamin C face serum. I have really enjoyed using this product! To begin, aging/wrinkles are not my number 1 skin concern. However, my skin can look dull at times; especially in the winter. My number one favorite thing about this serum is how much brighter and softer my skin was — it was pretty incredible! This serum comes in a really neat bottle, like a lot of serums do, with the eye dropper dispenser. It smells lightly citrus-y at first (to me), which makes since because it has vitamin C in it (which is an anti-oxidant!). But the scent fades fast and it’s pretty much odorless once it’s rubbed in. My skin can be a little bit acne prone, and after using this serum daily for about a week I started to notice very small pimples; so if you have oily skin, I would recommend using every other day. I also definitely recommend applying at night (which I do for most serums anyway) as it doesn’t soak in like some moisturizers will, so I’m not sure how it would handle makeup applied on top. Overall, this serum was definitely great — my skin feels and looks amazing! It’s refreshing to find something that can brighten up my poor skin in these winter months. And as most of us have heard, anti-oxidants are really important for maintaining skin health and youth! For $30 on Amazon, this is definitely a great buy! I hate how most serums can come with a ridiculous price tag upwards of $100, don’t you? Here is Valentia’s website for more information.

petsmart training

I am a bit obsessed with my dog — he makes my world go round! He is almost 4 years old. He knew “party” tricks already, but he always struggled with pulling too much on walks, jumping on people, and being rude to other dogs. Since the third year of medical school lends itself to more free time (in certain blocks, that is) I decided that I would take my pup to a Beginner’s Obedience Class! So we enrolled over at Petsmart.

I have to say, I have LOVED going! Maverick and I both have learned so much in just six weeks. He no longer pulls on walks! He still can be rude to other dogs, but mainly I have learned so many tips & tricks on how to fix that. In the class you also learn sit, “watch me”, down, stay, leave it, drop it, and shake.

Overall it was an amazing experience, and I’m planning on taking Maverick back to intermediate and advance classes! As well as learning more tricks at home. I felt like going to a class for socialization was well worth it; that’s just something I struggle with teaching him on my own.

Have you taken your dog to obedience classes before? What’d they learn? Leave a comment!

february birchbox unboxing

So, I’ve qualified for Birchbox Aces for two or three months now. But up until a few weeks ago, apparently, I had my email notifications turned off — I’m an idiot, I know. But one of the perks of being a Birchbox Ace is getting to choose one sample of the month OR selecting one of the Special Edition boxes as your monthly box. So, for this month none of the selected samples really jumped out.. I elected to receive the Rent the Runway Box, which I am SO glad I did! Here’s what I got:

  • The Balm Read My Lips – Bam! — full size here — I have been on a lippie kick recently so I’ll take whatever I can get my greedy little paws on.
  • Sumita Color Contrast Eyeliner in Raina — full size here — I have blue eyes so I LOVE the look of navy eyeliner! I also recently cleaned out my eyeliner bin and noticed my collection is slack-a-lackin’, so this is so perfect.
  • derma e Anti-Wrinkle Vitamin A Glycolic scrub — full size here — the only type of skincare product I haven’t bought 825936 different kinds of recently is SCRUBS. Yet again, perfect. Also the worry wrinkles on my forehead have been bumming me out recently. The one thing about this, though — it smells like straight up old lady. Sorry. I’m trying to feel YOUNGER here people!
  • Not Soap, Radio Body Wash – the stuff that cupid dips his arrows in — full size here — I have been in such a Valentine’s-y mood recently that this is right up my alley. And it smells like blackberries. It’s already in my shower and I cannot WAIT to use it!
  • Fekkai Blowout Hair Refresher Dry Shampoo — full size here — okay, so I got a dry shampoo last month. But hey, this means I can go a little longer without dishing out some moolah on more dry shampoo. Let’s be real, as a medical student who works out daily — dry shampoo is one of my closest friends.
  • $30 off a rental for Rent the Runway — I almost peed myself with excitement over this one. Before you judge me, I have had a dress in my RTR cart for a month now just waiting on the date of this year’s spring formal (yes medical school is like high school for grownups) and so THIS IS PERFECT. Times a thousand million.

As you can tell, I was SUPER pleased by this months box.. I have no idea how they can sell that for $10. It’s like stealing. Click here to sign up for Birchbox!

What’d you get in your Birchbox this month??

Don’t forget to check out my Fabulous February GIVEAWAY!

erin condren planner

Y’all — I am IN LOVE! Firstly, with all of my amazing readers — all week I have woken up to so many new comments, likes, and views, I really just want to say THANK YOU! I have had blogs on and off for many years in my life, but none of them have been nearly this successful. I know I am still very small on the grand scheme of things, but I’m growing and I’m loving it. So THANK YOU!

Secondly, I am in love with my Erin Condren planner. I’m busy right? And at my medical school we are given laptops and iPads as part of the curriculum — so why not just use iCal, you may ask me? That shit drives me crazy; but for the past two years I did it. I had lots of issues getting calendars to sync from one device to another, and God help me if my computer died and I left my iPad at home. (My iCal never worked well on my phone.) I know I know: first world problems. And I always knew about planners, sure; I had one in high school. It wasn’t cute though. So this new year with my onslaught of all my working out and meal prepping and general OCDness creeping in to my life, I started making excel sheets for every week. Which is fine when you’re on vacation and have time to do that mess. I start my OB/GYN rotation in a week, though, and let’s face it: those babies don’t wait to pop up until after you finish planning your week.

And then, I saw Elle Fowler’s twitter & instagram & blog posts about her planner obsession. And I became INFATUATED. I was on Erin Condren’s website, and within two hours ordered a planner, meal planning insert, bands, stickers.. I was like “THIS IS THE ANSWER!!” And then I stumbled upon the planner world on instagram — countless posts of amazing weekly layouts, SO visually appealing! I love the idea that you have your whole week sorted out and also an outlet to be creative and cute! Let’s face it, my weeks are sometimes NOT cute while in med school, but at least they look pretty written down. EC stuff takes a pretty minute to ship, since it’s personalized. I waited patiently (sort of) and ordered a million bajillion Etsy stickers to tide me over. (I’ll have to do sticker hauls separately — there’s too many!)

I do have to admit that during my first two years of med school, this would not have been quite as useful. We almost every day had lectures from 8 am to 12 pm, and there’s definitely not enough room to write down the names of every lecture. My days were very monotonous then. But now on clinical rotations, I do something different almost every day, and definitely every week. So far it has been an amazing and SUPER FUN tool to keep my crazy life somewhat together.

Click here to get $10 off an Erin Condren purchase! You won’t be disappointed.

Do you have a planner? What are your favorite Etsy stores I should check out for stickers?

sephora haul

Since I have been on my perfect moisturizer quest, I decided to hit up Sephora online recently. Here’s what I wound up with…

  • Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask — seen here. My combination skin does tend to dry out in the winter time, so I finally got this beauty off my favorites list. I’ve heard great things about it in the past! I love the idea of putting it on before bed and waking up with amazing skin.
  • WEN by Chaz Dean Healthy Haircare Kit — seen here. I’ve heard about Wen haircare through so many different people for so long, I finally just bit the bullet and got this kit. My hair is super fine, breaks easily, and lacks volume. This is supposed to be super light weight but moisturizing, so hopefully my hair will fluff up and grow out. I’ll do a review if it’s all the rage!
  • Perricone MD Face Finishing Moisturizer — full size seen here, but I bought a smaller & cheaper size that for the life of me I can’t find at Sephora.com anymore. Pretty self explanatory, I need a good moisturizer! And the option to buy a smaller less expensive size is perfect for me while I try things out.
  • Bumble & Bumble All Style Blowout deluxe sample — I’m SUPER excited about trying this gel out! It smells amaaazing!
  • Two perfume samples I tossed in with the other samples in my Fabulous February GIVEAWAY

Have you tried any of these beauty products? What’d you think? What have you picked up from Sephora recently?
